Books/ Media
55. Read every book offered up at my book club_2/ 6
‘The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lachs’ by Rebecca Skloot
The non-fic story of Henrietta Lachs, her descendants, the author as she attempted to write Henrietta's story, and the invaluable contribution Henrietta's genes have made to cell technologies including the ever-changing ethical questions surrounding the harvesting of cells & tissues. An easy and very enlightening read.
56. Read one art/ photography history book per month_2/ 11
'Gray' by James Rondeau and Douglas Druick; With contributions by Mark Pascale, Richard Shiff, Barbara Rose, and Kelly Keegan and Kristin Lister, and an interview with the artist by Nan Rosenthal
A wonderful essay driven catalog for Johns' 2008 exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago, I enjoyed reading this, with some essays easier to read than others, but all well worth the effort especially the interview with Johns.
58. Read one fiction/ non-fiction book per month_2/ 6
I read 3 ‘The Hunger Games Trilogy’ by Suzanne Collins
59. Post to flickr the cover & a brief description of each book_5/ 40?

   B) Find healthy organic honey_Done
A friend’s neighbor makes his own & it’s very good
   C) Find signature black & green tea_Done
To make things easy, teas must be found in most stores so, I went with
Tazo’s Organic Chai & Zen
   E) Chocolate Balls for hot chocolate_Done

Hot Chocolate Balls
Ingredients:
1 12oz bag (2 cups) semisweet chocolate chips
     1 cup heavy cream
     1/ 4 teaspoon salt
Preparation:
Microwave chocolate, cream, & salt in large bowl stirring occasionally until smooth, about 2 to 3 minutes
Refrigerate until firm, about 2 hours
Roll 3 tablespoons into 10 2-inch balls individually wrapping each in plastic wrap, transfer to zip-lock plastic bag
Refrigerate for up to 5 days
Freeze for up to 2 months

As can be kind of seen in the photo, what I did for Prep part 3 is I put the 3 tablespoons into a little metal bowl, I laid the plastic wrap over the bowl, inverted it so the chocolate would tumble onto the wrap, and then I just needed to twist the wrap closed.

 To make the hot chocolate:
Place the chocolate ball in a mug, fill with milk, and microwave about 2 minutes, stir, then continue heating for about 1 more minute.

     F) Swedish Pancakes_Done

I'll do a photo next time, I just got so excited at how good they came out I forgot to take one.

Swedish Pancakes
This makes around 9 to 10 pancakes, enough for 3
Ingredients:
     1 cup instant flour
We used Wondra because the batter must be smooth which means much mixing which toughens the batter with regular flour that then must sit for an hour or more. With instant flour, the batter can be used immediately.
     1/ 8 cup sugar
     1/ 2 teaspoon salt
     3/ 4 cup half&half
     3/ 4 cup club soda
     4 1/ 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted & cooled
1 large egg plus 1 yolk
Preparation:
Make batter:
Combine flour, sugar, & salt in large bowl. Slowly whisk half&half, club soda, 4 tablespoons butter, egg, & yolk into flour mixture until smooth.
Cook Pancakes:
Brush surface & sides of 10inch skillet with 1 teaspoon butter and heat over medium heat
When butter stops sizzling, pour 1/ 3 cup batter into skillet, tilting pan to evenly coat the batter
Cook until golden brown, 1 to 2 minutes per side (supposedly, ours took a little longer)
Keep warm however you think best. We did what they recommended, on a plate, wrapped in foil, and they got cold so…yeah.

   G) Caramelized Onions_Done

Caramelized Onions
Ingredients:
     1 tablespoon butter
     1 onion, chopped
     1/ 2 teaspoon salt
     1 tablespoon brown sugar
     1/ 4 cup chicken broth
Preparation:
Melt butter in medium non-stick skillet over medium-high heat
Add onions & salt and cook about 5 minutes, until onions just begin to brown
Add brown sugar and cook about 5 minutes, until onions are golden brown, stirring frequently
Add chicken broth and cook about 5 minutes, until onions are soft, deep golden brown & sticky
I used these with a potato gratin

I remember when I was helping the girls fill out college applications, SAT prep and what not. I thought I was going to tear my hair out.

Your carmalized onions look gorgeous!

The only thing I need to worry about is due dates, when to file, when is the test, because otherwise Lauren has a friend who's been helping her fill out all her applications and makes sure she ready for her testing. So sweet.

The onions do look pretty, don't they? And they added a very nice flavor to the potatoes.

That is so nice that her friend is helping her! I need someone like that :)

You do SO MUCH! I am in awe of that.

Also, lovely tattoo you got!

Lauren is very fortunate to have Jimmy, they been best friends since 2nd grade, which amazes me. Ya'know? a lot of it is the documenting, remembering everything, or at least, most everything, makes it seem like a lot, but thank you and I'm glad you like the tattoo, I'm most pleased with it myself.

I love flow of the drawing.

I needed 4 new tires last month.

Thanks, I'm pretty pleased with the way the drawing came out myself. and isn't it nice we have that in common, the need for new tires and just in time for winter. My car seems to be holding on to the road much better now and that also pleases me. It's the little things, right?

For me, in the swampy south, the tires are more of an issue in the summer when we get our monsoon rains. I need to get my ass in gear and go get the tires!

Hot Chocolate Balls sound tasty! Thanks for sharing :D

they are so easy, I keep ours in the freezer and the hot chocolate only takes a couple of minutes to make in the microwave. Should you try it, remember, you can mix it up by using different kinds of chocolate bits.

Love the drawing!

I'm curious about the tattoo, is there some meaning behind the symbols?

So glad you like the drawing, I do too.

Yes, there is meaning behind the tattoo, the top symbol is my zodiac sign -Capricorn; the middle one is my daughter's -Scorpio; and the bottom one is my husband's is -Gemini. It's us.

That's a really nice idea! :)

I snagged the idea from Glam Nation and all their various little wrist tattoos. It's weird where ideas can come from.

Just wanted to say, I love your drawing! I am always in awe when I can look at a sketch and feel it too. Thanks!

thank you so much, I really appreciate your thoughtful words.
