I posted this shot once before in the darkness of winter 6pm, now I post it in the bright sunlight of summer 6pm.

Sunday July 24, 2011 It would seem we eat dinner at The Spaghetti Factory regularly because we do since David likes it and who am I to argue with dinner out downtown. This is my mazithra cheese with brown butter and bacon AND this is my leftovers.

UC Santa Cruz establishment shot :D This was taken along the path frm Jimmy & Lauren's Crown College and the bookstore, so...yeah, kind of pretty.

Monday July 25, 2011 UC Santa Cruz arty shot.

This is where I was obliged to leave my computer for an entire week, but...all better now!!! And how exciting that I can, in fact, follow them on Facebook!!

Tuesday July 26, 2011 Lauren noticed this display at a local Barnes&Noble and thought it very cool. Can you tell why?

Lauren, Cindy and Jimmy in front of the Steinbeck Museum in Salinas, it's located close to where he lived apparently and we had a wonderful time exploring this small but very unique museum

Wednesday July 27, 2011 It's Monterey, no lie

.
Thursday July 28, 2011 a stealth shot of the illusive gumball machine, herding mall variety.

Friday July 29, 2011 How nice will it be when this building gets done!! Seriously though, it is moving right along.

Saturday July 30, 2011 a pretty picture of pretty tile, I think :D

I always enjoy all your wonderful pics and caps! Thank you so much for another treat. :D

'Thank you so much for another treat.'
thank you so much for thinking so, makes me feel all warm inside :D

Nice batch this time. My fave is the arty shot. :-)

'Nice batch this time.'
thank you!!

'My fave is the arty shot.'
Ask me if I'm surprised. No...no I'm not although I though Monterey, even if cliche, might have been a contender also :D

Thanks for stopping by, sweetie, I do so appreciate it.

Gorgeous pictures, Gaeln. LIked the tile and the Monterey and recognize the spot it was taken. I adore Monterey. However all the photos I have are from 1989 and the 70's so have faded and are yellowed. Love the colors in yours.

We stayed in Big Sur and drove into Monterey. Lovely place.

Re: Nice photos, Gaeln

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the photos!!

Monterey is a gorgeous place that we don't get to nearly often enough given that it's just not that long a drive from where we live. I love Big Sur, you must have had a great time when you stayed there. Having those memories in photos, even if faded, is priceless.

Re: Nice photos, Gaeln

BTW, how do you pronounce Gaeln? Sounds Irish or looks it, almost.

Well, the memories are good and kind of strange, actually. I didn't know it at the time, but the foods I took with me for snacks were foods to which I am allergic. LOL I discovered Bree which has mold in it and ate it all the way from my good friends home in Eugene, OR, down the coast on HIghway 1, or is it 101? Scenery was gorgeous. Portland was wonderful and the Youth Hostel there was GREAT!

By the time we reached Monterey and Big Sur there was a forest fire on the other side of the highway from where we camped. You know that photo that used to be on all the pictures of the highway that winds around toward Big Sur, I got actual shots of that, and post cards I drove it so much.

I don't know if it is still there, but there was a lovely bookstore painted in mint green and decorated with small print sofas, (it was 89) Crossroads or something like that. I sat down in the shop and the worst allergy attack I ever ensued. I was crying and sobbing for no reason and scared. They let me use their phone to call my doc at home and he told me what was happening and what to do.

Turned out I was allergic to smoke, mold, inhalent and foods and 10 other foods. So I had three different kinds of allergies going on.

I have the most gorgeous pictures of coastal fog we saw as we left Big Sur and we were socked in all the way to Santa Barbara or whatever city it was where the highway goes inland from the coast.

I am laughing now. I was one sick puppy that trip and grieving the break up from someone so it was very weird. I treasure the whole journey we made around the western U.S. driving, camping, seeing all the topography I taught my students in middle school and being in some of the most gorgeous campgrounds in the U.S. nestled in among Redwoods. I'm smiling as I write.

Memories are invaluable, yes, they are gaeln. Sorry for rambling. Still smiling. Maybe I'll do an album of that trip. The pictures are all chosen, arranged in order and my first vacation of it's kind ever.

Anyway, thanks for the memories; didn't mean to ramble. So much I can't tell you that was absolutely incredible to see and experience. Thanks for reminding me of the memories. Toddle on over to my LJ and I will write a little something about some of the events, the funniest and most majestic.

Lucky to live so close, you are, gaeln. Luck you are.

'BTW, how do you pronounce Gaeln?'
Gay-lyn. I wanted gaylen and several other spellings but all that was available is what I got, which works fine since Gael is another way to spell my name.

Don't ever apologize for rambling, I very much liked reading about your adventure -- I took a similar driving trip almost every year with my mom & dad -- and even if that was a particularly difficult way to find out you had several different food allergies, that must have been scary. I hope you do your photo album and that when you do, you'll share it with us. I'd love to see the gorgeous fog photo.

Re: Nice photos, Gaeln

I don't know how to share it. It's not on the computer and I'd have to have it color copied and files made of each page after scanning. Expensive.

I'm almost finished with the QAF Art Album. I'm excited about it.

It was at the time, but, now, it's just one of my many minor chronic conditions. None are life threatening so far and I'm grateful for that. I have the most wonderful friends and am loved and feel quite safe and cared about.

It is pretty tile.

Museums dedicated to writers = heaven. And as I think about this, not one comes to mind that I have been to. Surely this can't be true, but I think it is. Wow. Needs to be rectified and soon. Wait. I just thought of one - Hemingway in Key West. The tour of his house, including his writing study and the best part? All the cats on site - 30 or so who are descendants of his cats and most if not all with six toes on each paw. :) I have a picture of me holding a kitten.

The spaghetti picture is torturing me. I am hungry and no spaghetti in sight, only canteloupe.

I'm so glad you were immediately able to rectify what could have become a serious situation and amazingly. How awesome to have visited Hemmingway's home and to know that his cats remain. I can only claim to had sangria at a tasca he supposedly frequented off St. Mark's Square in Venice, which, as I think about it, is pretty cool too. If true!!!

I didn't notice that you included in picture of you and this alleged 6-toed kitten!!???!! meh

Maybe you sat on the same stool.

No need to go to the eye doctor this year. ;)
