When I was ten years old I received a picture after writing Jimmy Stewart a letter telling him how much I liked him and his acting. It was one of those tiny black and white pics so popular in the 50's; the kind that last forever.

He was my favorite actor from the time I can remember seeing him for the first time. I was devastated when the guy shot him in the hand in what was the name of the picture; the Man from Laramie? Oh, and one of my all time favorite films is Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Shaped my beliefs along with my father's patriotism. Of course, Strategic Air Command was also one of my favorite movies at the time since my father was in the United States Air Force. I had no idea what SAC was about until i married and heard from my ex-husband about how he hated playing war games 24 hours a day.

Didn't really know what any of that meant until the last decade when I've devoted a great deal of time learning about the roles our military forces play in the defense of our country.

Love, love, love Alan Rickman since I saw him in Sense and Sensibility and saw a side of him I never dreamed existed. Have followed him ever since Die Hard and S and S except through the last five Potter movies. Lost interest after the second book. I was into other things by then.

There's something very dark about him and yet vulnerable.

I like Stewart's Hitchcock work also, Rear Window, North by Northwest etc. He was just a terrific actor.

And I think you're right abut Rickman, dark yet vulnerable. I liked him very much in Sense and Sensibility, but also LOVED him in the Potter movies, with a kid my daughter's age, it's almost mandatory I like the books and the movies.

Thank you for this, am a huge Rickamn fan myself.

One of the amazing people on my friends list went to see him in a play in New York recently and one day when I got my mail, as a surprise, I found out she had sent me an autographed prgramme from the play.
