Oh minimalism, where have you gone!!

Still, most of these photos were taken Friday and Saturday but a couple were taken today, Monday so, I'm making this a two week post because it is fairly heavy photo-wise, even if I have kept them smallish, as these are about process. Over the weekend, we redid our driveway and it is now so so so cool!!!

These first 2 show a BEFORE and an AFTER. BEFORE, we had no rebar or even gravel so, we had cracks everywhere. AFTER we have rebar with gravel under it. We did what's called a salt finish, which adds just a subtle texture, with a brushed 1 foot wide border. In the second photo, you can see the texture somewhat. Further down, you'll be able to better see the border. We also fixed an ugly edge into a lovely curve. All and all, we are very pleased.

And shhhhh, don't tell Lauren, we're keeping it a surprise for her until she comes home in November :D

And the AFTERS_Taken Monday October 22, 2012_I have a little work to do fixing the panting beds, but at least now the plants on the right side aren't all up against the edge. These have most of the salt washed away but residue remains still. We have to 'water' it every day for at least 2 weeks, the longer it stays damp, the longer it takes to cure and the stronger it will be. And that's also how long the cars are supposed to stay in the street since we can't drive on it.

It's all about the process_Saturday October 20, 2012_the concrete arrives, at 7am!! and is smoothed, scored and then salted & brushed. In the last photo, the salt has dried.

I know, I should have put this behind a collapsible cut, but alas...no.

Thank you, I think so too. It was an undertaking but they completed everything in two days which was very cool. Very professional.

I really like the contrast of the border and the salted middle. It looks very stylish. Keep watering it!

When I first got to LJ, I learned quick to use a cut or I would hear about it. I'm scarredreligious about it.

I agree, about the contrast, Daiv wanted all brushed, but I fought, just a little, for the slightly more expensive salted look and he's glad that I did :)

I generally use cuts, but even when I haven't, I haven't gotten any complaints...as yet :D I kept the photos all small so as to hopefully avoid bogging down anyone's browser.

This is such a cool process to watch! Thanks for the pics. :)

They made it look easy, the most time consuming part being going over and over the poured concrete to make it smooth. Thanks for following along.

Looks great now. Enjoyed following the proces with your pics.

It does look great...now. It sucked big time before, had increasingly gotten worse as we've lived here which is the way of concrete that is unrebared. I'm glad you enjoyed the journey from then to now!

Wow, that's really pretty! :)

thank you!! I think so too :)

Thank you!! We are pleased and the process couldn't have gone more smoothly, always a plus :)
