So very true.
It's the softest amongst us that build the strongest armors around themselves.

You are absolutely right. Well put and weirdly, you put me in mind of Brian Kinney, how I always though of him.

Sometimes the reverse is true, and life experiences pound some of us softer and make us more empathetic and humble.

absolutely true, maybe a return to our beginnings? I can't imagine many are born hardened, but are hardened through early childhood experiences. I'd like to think that process is reversible, that it is possible to return to a more positive, a softer, state of being..

It is. I think it's a matter of choosing whether to let life make you even more hard and bitter, or resilient and positive. I hope no matter what the future holds, I'll always choose the latter; it's a much better place to be.
