And then, a cool short little YouTube vid of how he became Smaug.

Both are from tumblr and both are to be thoroughly enjoyed!

He is easy on the eyes, isn't he? As someone that's not a "youin'" anymore, I appreciate that they didn't feel the need to buff out all his winkles.

At first, that video made me chuckle, but once I got past the weirdness of him in that odd suit, climbing around on the floor, I started to feel respect for him as an artist. You really do have to put your own discomfort aside to do something like that.

I was going through some of the other videos Weta/Peter Jackson put up and ran across the one from the end of last year when they were working on the musical score for Hobbit 2. (Yes, I'm a music geek and proud of it!)

The conductor's score they showed on Howard Shore's table was UNREAL! It's the type that's on bible thin pages and at least 5" thick. I can't even imagine performing/recording something like that.

He's not a natural beauty per se, which is what I care for most about his looks, wrinkles and all are what add character and dept plus he just has such style, wears clothes so well. I've heard it said that porn for a woman is a man in a really good suit. This I believe.

How difficult it must be to act as if you're a dragon, a huge huge dragon, while crawling around on the floor with nothing and no one to act against, no set, no nothing, and with all these people watching you? Ramps up my respect a hundred-fold.

I rarely buy movie scores, but the music for all of the Lord of the Rings, Hobbit movies has been so amazing that I have. Lauren insisted :) What you describe, especially to someone like me who is completely without skill music-making-wise, sounds completely overwhelming.

Movie geeks rule!!

I'm seeing him (and Johnny Lee Miller) in Frankenstein next week (a screened version of the National Theatre production)...can you believe I've never actually seen him in anything?!

No, actually I can't believe that you haven't seen him in anything, but to start with Frankenstein is terrific. Lauren and I saw the National Theatre production last year with Benedict as the creature and Jonny as the Doctor. I hope one day to see it the other way around. It's a spare production and raw. Lauren and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

I look forward to your thoughts.
