365 Photography Project_Sixteenth Post

Not nearly as dramatic a picture as last week. Oh well.

Sunday January 23, 2011 A mission101 project_going through all my books and discarding those -- pictured -- that are no longer relevant. Unlike clothes, which I go through yearly, I rarely go through my books, but interests changes and new books keep coming in all the time so, sadly I guess, some have to go. I worked on this a little each day the prior week and finally finished on Sunday.

Monday January 24, 2011 Another mission101 project_Go through my card collection -- fifteen years worth of the the ones I bothered to save in the first place -- reducing it to fit in one box, preferably, or both, if necessary. I worked all day Monday on this, it torn me up dealing with holiday and birthday and thank you and 'just because' cards from my parents, from friends I know longer know, from Lauren when she was 3 or 5 or 10, plus, all the cards we'd given my parents over the years that I had gathered back-up when I cleared out their house in 2007.I pretty much cried all day and then, the job was done and all that I've kept do fit in one box

Tuesday January 25, 2011 The outside of Lauren's orthodontist. A couple of spacers were added.

Wednesday January 26, 201 Lauren's (and my) dentist's office. Clean...clean...clean.

Thursday January 27, 2011 Continuing the Documenting Our Stuff Project_Lauren's Great-Grandma Inez's figurines.
For Lauren:
These two, the pretty little deer and the so cute dog, were always in your Great-Grandma's Inez's kitchen on a scalloped-edged shelf that connected the 1940s/ 1950s cabinets that flanked her sink and window in each of the only two house she lived in -- with your Great-Grandpa Dewey -- that I can remember. Neither has markings, no pottery makers name on the bottoms, still, they mean a great deal to me because I have very little, otherwise, from her nor do you. She died the year you were born, 1993.

I love the ceramic figures. My sister has a couple in her otherwise very chic living room that have no other value other than that they were in our house growing up, and they make me smile to see them--to me, they are the prettiest things in her house, two silly Siamese cat figurines and an owl, both from the sixties maybe the fifties. She is the youngest, born almost a generation after the rest of us, so it is a bit of connection for her to family past, as the figures of the deer and dog are for Lauren.

The sky and leaf--beautiful. Your photography continues to fill me with awe...and ahhhh.

Arwen, who has trouble giving up books

A chic house, especially, needs a reference to the past and it's so cool that your sister has the three figurines to make that connection for her. I took my Grandma's figurines as a starting point and now have quite a few. They comfort me somehow.

Glad you like the 'nature' shots, they tend to be my 'OMG, I-don't-know-what-to-take-a-photo-of' photos, I'm glad the 'desperation' doesn't show.

I go through my clothes 1 to 2 times per year, I go through my books once every 5 years so, yeah, I understand the feeling, I have some trouble myself letting-go.
