365 Photography Project Thirty-Sixth Post

Sunday June 12, 2011
Cute Story:
Christmas and my birthday are one week apart.
The large one was bought for me for Christmas by David at least 20 years ago.
The smaller one was bought for me for my birthday by my best friend Barbara (she starred with Lauren in a pic in last week's post) the same year.
Kind of amazing when you consider they had no idea what the other was getting. I took the photo with them laying on Lauren's bedroom rug.

Monday June 13, 2011 I've posted pics of this task before, pruning my rose tree. There have been years when its first bloom was as early as January, this year its first was in May.

Tuesday June 14, 2011 Random shot while passing through the store on my way to the back. This is an extension of the kids area that is filled with the most wonderful educational and artistic toys. I want!!!

Wednesday June 15, 2011 For June, Lauren and I are watching The Great Courses series, 'The History of the English Language'.Very well put together, very informative, we have learned a ton and still have 12 of the 36 lessons to watch!! Plus I totally adore the Professor, I should probably take a pic of him.

Thursday June 16, 2011 My angels & ballerina taking a much needed bath. Three of these came from my mom, the ballerina, the wedding one in the green dress and the one in the back, of the two from Valentine's Day, I've added four more, plus a set of 3 angels for Christmas that remain packed away until then, just to give it the actual feel of a collection and will undoubtedly add more as time goes on.

Friday June 17, 2011 Cha...a...a...an...ges!!

Saturday June 18, 2011 Little backyard squirrel eats and then, he runs. I actually took these and through the window screen hence the softness.

Rose Tree
Your rose tree is g-g-g-gorgeous. My goodness, it bloomed late this year. May is about the time roses bloom in chilly Philadelphia.

Love the picture of your squirrel scampering. Great shot. FanSee

Re: Rose Tree
thank you. It is a problematic tree, a pain to deal with, but it is beautiful. Usually I get three or so blooms out of it, but I doubt I will this year.

Our squirrels are very entertaining, giving us minutes of viewing pleasure each day.

What is the difference between a rose tree and a rose bush?

I love the song, Changes. What is the significance of the car in the picture?

Why the Ibex or antelope gifts? The way you arranged them on the rug - this is a great photo.

Actually, bush is inaccurate because it is a vine and the difference is only that a vine/ bush is nurtured into a single trunk so that its bulk is held high up in the air making it just that much more difficult to prune. This tree won't get any taller and although the trunk has grown studier, it still can't hold its own head up, it has to be staked. And it has to be pruned since it is a vine, it will just keep on growing and growing. If I let it go, the vines would drape all the way to the ground eventually. Pretty but not good for the health of the tree. It's all exceedingly unnatural.

There's no significance other than to add some movement, some interest to the otherwise boring as hell photographs I'm taking each week to document the store's progress. Since I discovered, accidentally, that I can capture movement, I'm doing so :D

I've always collected that sort of streamline 1903s and 1940s porcelain deer/ antelope statuary, but I also like ethnic pieces. Somehow, and in the same year, both David and Barbara put those two things together, finding these two metal pieces, which have the streamline 1940s shape with ethnic decoration, each on their own. I used Lauren's rug because otherwise, I was having trouble isolating their shapes from whatever background I stood them in front of. Her rug seemed to control the background noise and gave the pic a nice little ethnic feel.

Thanks for the fun questions, I always enjoy your comments.
