Stephen Burt: Why people need poetry_for secretsolitaire especially

Taken from TEDtalks:
'We're all going to die — and poems can help us live with that." In a charming and funny talk, literary critic Stephen Burt takes us on a lyrical journey with some of his favorite poets, all the way down to a line break and back up to the human urge to imagine.'

From me:
He talks with passion about his obsession with words and why he became a poetry critic, analyzing four short poems, reminding us why poetry matters.

-enjoy!!

Ahh, totally behind since I've been traveling again, but thanks for this! I'd only read one of the four poems (the Keats one, way back in either high school or college), so it was fun to be introduced to those and to hear his thoughts about poetry. Like the line about poetry as a needle. :)

Such a life, always traveling. Good for you and yours :)

I very much enjoyed his insights :) He said something about how poetry captures a moment of someone's inner thoughts that I liked very much.
