A. list five habits/quirks/facts about yourself
B. tag five people to do the same

One: to earn money in college I was an art model in the same department and for the same teachers and with the same students I took classes with. It was a wonderful experience and, yeah, there are bronzes and oils of me out there somewhere. I have a couple of the pastels from teachers.

Two: I talk with my hands, people imply that I must have Italian in me but, sadly, no...I'm English, Welsh and German.

Three: I find hetero love stories BOR...ING, I can only read gay now and only then if they're NOT really just hetero love stories with two guys. I probably own every gay teen coming-of-age story Barnes&Noble sells. Yeah, that's right, I like 'em young which is probably more a quirk then a fact realizing that gay teen coming-of-age stories at B&N don't have much sex.
As a side note: Lauren collects Shonen Ai which means boy love and are boy with boy manga stories...the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree.

Four: I have a very easy way of doing the grocery shopping list which makes it so Lauren and I can do all of it...planning the week's meal's, shopping and putting everything away in less then two hours and only once a week. I DO NOT like grocery shopping.

Five: I've come close, on more then one occasion, to leaving this fandom because of Ethan Gold, aka 'the fiddler'. I've a lot of trouble understanding the nearly universal hate, especially as expressed by people I otherwise respect, of him and have become very protective of him. Realizing how completely polar I am in how I see him has made me question if I really belong here. And yet.

I will tag
galesweetie, seanmegansean, adrtylilsecret, fansee, and lastglances. Come play.

Gayle,
I'll comment more fully later. I was wondering now, though, who is Ethan? I have two possibilities in mind and I'm curious.

sorry, I think everyone adores Ethan the writer, I know I do. I mean Ethan the violin player otherwise know as 'the fiddler', 'Ian', apparently the villain of QAF (I would have thought that was Hobbs but...no)

I look forward to your comments.

ONE is very cool! Even if I had the body for it, I'd never have the guts.

And I LOOOOVE grocery shopping. I don't even have to buy anything, just being in the same place as all that food is already good (which might explain why I'll never have the body for modeling lol)

Will do this as soon as I can (might take a few days though, have to beat RL into submission first) - it's been ages since I've been tagged for anything *excited/dork/sleep-deprived/etc* ;)

xoxo

two body types were in demand, women with a more "Raphael-type' shape, very fun to draw with all those curves and such and lanky so some bones showed (me at the time).

I look forward to reading your post :))

your list is great...especially #3 regarding lauren and #5. i think there is a giant hate thing looming over the ethan character. sometimes i feel like saying..."so he cheated", "big deal"...so did justin, melanie, lindsay, emmett!!

but please don't leave the fandom!

i feel like saying..."so he cheated", "big deal"...so did justin, melanie, lindsay, emmett!!

EXACTLY and, as importantly, so did I when young, I can hardly throw stones at him for doing what I have also done.

Ethan!hate
I'm another one who doesn't understand Ethan!hate. Sure, he wasn't the right guy at the right time for Justin, but that doesn't make him scum. He had some growing up to do, and his agent put him (and Justin)in a very uncomfortable position, but I don't hate him for his poor handling of his own dogging around or for the corner his agent pushed him into.

I don't hate Michael, either.

I'll do your meme when I get home. FanSee

Re: Ethan!hate
I'm glad it doesn't make sense to you either. It's always seemed to me that in order to hate him, as much as some do, you'd actually have to think of him as a real threat to Brian. At the time, Brian was his own worst enemy, all he had to do is say...stay Justin or come back...and Justin would have. Ethan was a kid IMO, what did he know about any of it? He made a mistake, who hasn't.

The only person I ever really hated was Hobbs. Melanie could just seriously piss me off, her constant barrage of shit towards Brian drove me crazy but no, I never hated Michael either.

I can't wait to read yours.

Just a little update on the header. I'm in the process of whipping my muses into submission about it. ;) I have made a few false starts, but I'm working on it. Just so you don't think I've forgotten about it, but it will be a little while yet. ;)

I wish I was as organized as you when it comes to grocery shopping. At our house it's a constant battle since my fiance refuses to go into the grocery store...

I totally get your feelings on the Ethan hate. I might have been swept up by it from time to time, but I don't hate the guy and now I'm very careful in voicing any sort of thing that might indicate otherwise. He wasn't the right guy for Justin, and I firmly believe Justin wasn't the right guy for him either. But to me there is no denying the fact that Ethan filled a very important role in Justin's own coming-of-age. I love how Justin finally got to be his own age! Find somebody to have a crush on that felt the same way. I can never get over how utterly beautiful the scene at PIFA is. The expressions on Justin's face... I love Ethan for putting it there. Justin deserved to be able to feel like he did with Ethan. He deserved to have that experience, something he never could have with Brian. Hell, everybody deserves moments like that. And then Ethan breaks his heart. Well, not really - he didn't have it to begin with, so what's to hate?

I agree with fansee too, I don't hate Michael either. That's one of my pet peeves though, that makes me crawl away in a corner of fandom from time to time. The Michael haters out there makes me cringe sometimes, and I often wonder if they saw the same show I did at all.

Thanks for the read! It really made me think. ;)

i was seriously waiting for someone to tag me with this. i sure am glad it was you. i find number five most interesting because i have an intense dislike of ethan completely outside of the brian/justin relationship. i just don't like people like him, who make outrageously romantic promises, et cetera. but to each his own.

Imagine he was raised in a home that played that kind of music, that he was taught, undoubtedly from the time he was two or three, to play that kind of music...very old-world...very sheltered...v v traditional. He's on his own for the first time with romantic music, and all it represents, a part of every fiber of his being. He sees Justin, undoubtedly his first real boyfriend -- I can't imagine his family knew or would have approved of his gayness so he must have hid it from them -- and he falls in love and who can blame him. Then Justin tells him all about all the things he and Brian have done, you know he did. Imagine him hearing all of that form Justin. I honestly believe he meant all of his romance, he was raised to it if cow/lip would have bothered to give him ANY backstory other then his dependence on his grandfather...his teacher and probably a very strong guiding force in his life (and I'm sure from the old-country whereever). Do you really blame him for wanting a taste of what Brian and Justin had lived for a year and a half? Sorry but I don't. I have done the same, when his age I messed up more then once, I was learning how to be a decent person and it took a while to figure out what really mattered.

I found this quote accidently one day at work, I opened a book I found laying around and there it was. I've started trying to write a backstory for Ethan and I'm using this at it's beginning. Tell me what you think.

Young people,
who are beginners in everything, cannot yet know love:
they have to learn it.
-Rainer Marie Rilke,
Letters to a Young Poet

Ethan and Justin were learning.
Think I've been thinking about this much? Just a little too much maybe?

nope you got it right and I'm going to edit my post because it's not clear and should be. I love Ethan the writer, he was my first real qaf writer and I have everything he wrote saved to flashstick. I need to make that clear.

No. 1 - WOW!! :)

No. 2 - How much do you talk with your hands? In Canada, at least in some parts, you would be thought to be French.

No. 3 - I also love male/male love stories, especially the young man coming out and into his own. One of my favourites of that genre is "Leaving Myself Behind". And one of my favourites of grown up love is "Comfort & Joy". I expect you have heard of or read both of these.

I still like stories by my long established favourite authors, but I supplement reading their books with others. When I read!!!

No. 4 - Some people find grocery shopping a chore. I guess it's part of life that can't be ignored. It's good you have a plan that keeps the shopping to a minimum.

No. 5 - not sure who Ethan is. Whether it's Ethan from the show, or Ethan/xhaleslowly (whose stories I adore) or some other Ethan. I'm glad you stayed!

2. apparently a lot because people giggle at me more then I care for and I can't even tell you how many times I've accidentally smacked Lauren when she was much smaller and always stood right next to me.
3. 'Comfort and Joy' is a big favorite, I've read it twice and actually rec'ed it to my bookclub, their first gay novel, but I really like Grimsley's 'Dream Boy'. I will check out 'Leaving Myself Behind.'
4. I hate shopping that HAS to be done, with us every Sunday week after week after week so we've made it as easy as possible. I have a friend who goes almost every day...no way.
5. I mean Ethan Gold...Justin's Ethan. I find so many stories that make him 'the villain' and I don't get it. xhaleslowly_ethan I love. I didn't even consider anyone would think I meant him. I've gone back and edited my entry to make that VERY clear.

Ack, you tagged me! :D

I dislike grocery shopping too - I hate ANY kind of shopping.

I talk with my hands a lot too, that must be your German heritage, lol.

I don't get hatred toward a character in a television show either - it's not even real! But I'm a lousy fan of anything, I just don't get it I guess.

I don't hate shopping, just shopping that has to be done and every week...ick.

Must be the German.

I sort of get it because I very much dislike Hobbs and, at times, Melanie just drove me crazy, I could get so pissed at her. Maybe hate does seem stupid towards someone on TV, they aren't real but if done well, characters can elicit a kind of hate. Just look at me with Max, I could see myself ending up really really disliking_kind of hating him, that's how well you are writing him. That writers can elicit that kind of response, whether positive or negative, is amazing and, I think, what many strive for. Otherwise, what's the point of fiction.

really just paying the rent, I knew everyone in the art department anyway so...easy peesey.

My father used to tease me that I would not be able to talk or communicate if someone tied my hands behind my back
I have been told exactly the same thing...exactly. And yeah, I'd probably be dancing around, using my whole self, if my hands were tied.

I actually enjoy grocery shopping, isn't that completely weird!
For me, it's shopping that has to be done and consistently that I don't like so...completely weird to enjoy grocery shopping but sure makes the doing of it far more fun, I bet. Actually, doing it with Lauren, especially now that she's older, has made it a lot more fun. She is 'dictator of-the-list' and tells me what to get and when I forget something, I get that look, that OMG how-could-you look. She sometimes forget whose the kid and whose the mom and that's not my fault. It's not.

...see Ethan as very young and in many ways caught up in something that he had no idea what to do with. I would hate to see you leave. I hope we can find more that we agree on than we disagree on. I think you are a gifted writer and enjoy your perspective.
I agree, since a lot of the women in this fandom are young, they cut very little slack and, apparently, lead exemplary lives. When I was his age, I messed up just as he did. I throw no stones. Thanks for liking my stories, I think it's important that, as an older writer, I get that different perspective out there.

Talking with your hands means your passionate!
That coming from an American-Italian from Brooklyn !!

I can honestly say QAF did that to me also. Straight sex is now very vanilla to me.

My husband's from Brooklyn!!! he told where but I forget. I like that I'm passionate, passionate is good.

I thin it's interesting how a lot of straight women find straight sex uninteresting...that tv show opened up new perspectives...so cool.

You are going to play aren't you? You don't want to disappoint someone who's passionate now do you.

it's shopping that has to been done and if done well, makes the rest of the week so much easier so try and find a system that works for you, takes a little more up-front time - for instance, we plan out our menu for dinner for every night of the week and buy everything we need - but is so worth it in the long run.

Thanks for commenting.

That's very cool. Consider posting one of the pastels. I'd love to see it.

Me too on the het sex - it does nothing for me unless there's an element of menace or control. Gay boy sex all the way!

Ethan. I've always liked him. I think he's cute and charming and sexy. And not fat. I've seen people make comment about him being fat, and I'm all wtf?

I loved him and Justin together in their little garret apartment with the cat and the bed on the floor.

I'm not sure I'm quite ready to post a nude of me even if from a lifetime ago plus they are rather large, around 24in by 36in, hard to scan in.

I love you, can I just say that? I really do and WTF on Ethan being fat. His apartment was like the ones we lived in at that age, his 'pretentious' friends were like my friends, art students and yeah pseudo-intellectual but since when did that become a bad thing at 18-19 years old? thank you for commenting, maybe I will put some effort into 'his' story, a couple of people might actually read it.
