Happiness meme_Day two

Today, I read.
Sure, I did have to do four loads of laundry, and I did sweep the kitchen floor, and I did dust SOMETHING. Oh, and I did have to take Lauren for the second of what will probably be 360 to 365 orthodontist appointments over the next 22 to 26 months BUT in between, before and after, in and around...I read.

And what did I read? I started my bookclub book which is: 'Garlic and Sapphires: The Secret Life of a Critic in Disguise' by Ruth Reichl who was the New York Times food critic during the 1980s and '90s. A smooth and easy read with actual reviews and a few recipes included.

So, yeah. today I'm happy because I spent the day, mostly, reading a book I'm actually enjoying, while David painted part of the fence mossy green, and while not at the dentist Lauren worked on and finished her essay on 'Of Mice and Men' which amazing amazing is due tomorrow.

'I read so much fanfic that I don't have time for real books anymore. :-('

Hence the bookclub, We meet every six weeks at a local breakfast place on a Saturday morning, no family allowed unless absolutely necessary, and they make me read stuff I never would otherwise. Oddly, I'm not much for novels and they LOVE novels.

What did you read on actual paper?

I got about three quarters of the way through A Single Man by Christopher Isherwood (a novel). I had never heard of Isherwood till I saw justinlovesart's rec of the documentary "Chris and Don," about the life Isherwood and his lover, artist Don Bachardy, shared. (If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.) My interest was piqued, so I checked out this book. I wouldn't say I'm blown away by it, but I'm enjoying it -- and it's a fairly quick read.

thanks for the rec, I've put it on Netflix and moved it to the top position. Christopher Isherwood is the kind of name I know I know but I don't remember why. Now I need to check him out.
