It's kind of ironic how...

...just last week, I was talking to arlad about what's been going on in Mexico -- for those who don't know, she lives in Mexico City -- with the flue and her saying how bad it's getting and me being worried for her and relieved we live here, when, this morning -- actually at midnight last night -- I receive a call from my daughter's highschool saying that they were shutting it down until NEXT Wednesday because a student tested positive last Thursday for Swine Flue. Apparently, there's a 10 day incubation period and, now I'm to watch her for symptoms.

It's a small freakin' world, isn't it? And we're all in this together.

And maybe ironic isn't the right word. Maybe it's more like epic scary.

Oh, HON! You and your daughter must be so scared, you all must be!

I know it's very small comfort, but I think the shut down and the fact that you're already very aware to watch for symptoms is a big help... and, again, a small and fairly morbid comfort, but the disease has only killed here in Mexico (well, my NY times alert tells me there may be a US death) but experts are saying the deaths in Mexico are in part because people delayed treatment and because of bad nutrition. I know how very scary this entire situation is, like a creepy disaster movie with no Dennis Quaid to save the day, but I'm sending you all my good vibes.

Stay safe, darling.

The one death here was, apparently, a baby. Our paper said that the girl from Lauren's school is the first confirmed case in our county, that she's 16 which would probably put her in Lauren's grade, that she probably picked it up in Southern California, and that she hasn't been in school since last Thursday. We're nervous but have also decided to take advantage of the downtime, y husband just happens to be in Ohio, far away, this week. We went out to breakfast, took some pictures and now, we're just taking it easy and such is our life until Monday afternoon when we pick Daiv up from the airport.

You stay safe as well, we'll be fine.
