It's kind of ironic how...

...just last week, I was talking to arlad about what's been going on in Mexico -- for those who don't know, she lives in Mexico City -- with the flue and her saying how bad it's getting and me being worried for her and relieved we live here, when, this morning -- actually at midnight last night -- I receive a call from my daughter's highschool saying that they were shutting it down until NEXT Wednesday because a student tested positive last Thursday for Swine Flue. Apparently, there's a 10 day incubation period and, now I'm to watch her for symptoms.

It's a small freakin' world, isn't it? And we're all in this together.

And maybe ironic isn't the right word. Maybe it's more like epic scary.

The problem is that they still don't know what kind of flu it is actually. Our health chief says that it is actually a mix of swine flu viruses, as well as human and avian viruses. The viruses are mutants, not known up to now. I'm not sure, but I believe that I've heard on TV that they are going to call the viruses the New viruses and the flu outbreak the New flu. Has it become official yet, I don't know.

It is scary, I agree with you and all others.

Someone was speculating in her blog today:

The tricontinental nature of the virus seems to indicate that either 1) there were a HUGE series of coincidences and accidental meetings that resulted in this virus, or 2) someone in a lab was playing with several different strains of viruses (virii?) and created his own version of Stephen King's Captain Trips.

we're still calling it Swine as far as I know but obviously something is very different about it. We've had our first confirmed death here in America, a two year old. How sad. They've apparently traced it to small little village in Mexico where they'd had a similar problem a couple of years ago. The world is a very small place, we all travel constantly, things spread. We all just need to watch out for each other, I think.
