It's kind of ironic how...

...just last week, I was talking to arlad about what's been going on in Mexico -- for those who don't know, she lives in Mexico City -- with the flue and her saying how bad it's getting and me being worried for her and relieved we live here, when, this morning -- actually at midnight last night -- I receive a call from my daughter's highschool saying that they were shutting it down until NEXT Wednesday because a student tested positive last Thursday for Swine Flue. Apparently, there's a 10 day incubation period and, now I'm to watch her for symptoms.

It's a small freakin' world, isn't it? And we're all in this together.

And maybe ironic isn't the right word. Maybe it's more like epic scary.

This thing is moving along pretty quickly. I was reading the list of countries where it has been found so far--it's essentially all over the globe. Our state has cases now. I sense that the officials are so worried about over-reacting that they keep down-playing things. I don't like over-reactions, but sensible precautions do seem to be in order.

Memorial Day *chuckles* these arcane time-honored style conventions barely apply here in whatevertheehellyouwant California. Black in summer, white in winter, we play fast and loose with the rules around here.

I have an lj friend traveling throughout Europe, she feels safe but I nonetheless worry. And you're right, sensible precautions are in order but I imagine being a working mom and suddenly finding out my kid's not going to be in school for a week. Yuck.
